Weight-Loss in Cambridge

Weight Loss Overview

Q. Is lettuce an allowed vegetable?
A. No, During the rapid weight loss phase, lettuce is not allowed.

Q. What do I do if I feel nauseous on the diet?
A. We suggest that you cut back on the pottasium pill. You can initially reduce the amount you are taking, but if that does not help then you can cut it out temporarily.

Q. What if I feel very tired on this diet?
A. Usually you only feel tired in the first week or so. After that you actually feel more energised. If the tiredness continues then you must inform the staff/doctor.

Q. I get constipated on the diet. What do I do?
A. Continue to drink 8-10 glasses of water. If this does not help, then we suggest some Senokot pills. They can be bought over the counter or by prescription.

Q. I find the injections too painful. Can I take pills instead?
A. Unfortunately pills do not help as much as the injections. We suggest you try changing the location of the injections. If that does not help then you can apply EMLA cream (Freezing cream) 1 hour prior to your visit.

Q. I am thinking of getting pregnant. Should I discontinue the diet?
A. It is not advisable to follow a strict diet during pregnancy. Please discuss your individual situation with the doctor.

Q. Besides weight loss, does this diet have any other benefits?
A. Following this diet also gives you an energy burst . The diet also helps make your skin more radiant and glowing.

Q. Why do I have to have a urine test?
A. We test the urine for ketones. This proves that you are burning fat and helps us ascertain that you are indeed following the diet closely.

Q. When can I start exercising?
A. We recommend that you get closer to your goal weight before you concentrate on exercising. At this time we aim to increase your muscle mass, strength and tone.

Q. What do I do if I get to a plateau and am no longer losing weight?
A. After a significant weight loss (10%) you may find that your weight loss slows down or plateaus for a week or so. This is quite normal. It is the body's way of adjusting to your new weight. Hang in with the diet and injections and you will pass this stage.

Q. What are the injections composed of?
A. A combination of B6 and B12.

Q. Can I drink diet drinks?
A. You can drink diet drinks. However it is preferred if you get used to drinking water. Diet drinks can cause fluid retention. Try to minimise the use of artificial sweetener.

Q. Can I have any dairy products?
A. Due to the high fat and calorie count of dairy products, they are forbidden in the rapid weight loss phase. (You are taking a calcium vitamin to make up for the lack of calcium in your diet). However, it is permissable to have two tablespoons of yogurt or milk per day as long as you continue to achieve weight loss.

Q. Why is lettuce not allowed?
A. Lettuce tends to increase the water content in your body hence gives you a false reading. In the maintenance phase, lettuce is reintroduced because it does contain valuable vitamins.

Q. What are the benefits of B6 and B12 ?
A. B6 and B12 are known to boost your metabolism and control your apetite. This helps maintain your weight loss.

Q. What do ketones in the urine mean?
A. Ketones mean that you are breaking down the fat in your body. Although this is a good indication that you are following the diet, it is not necessary to have ketones to have weight loss.

Q. What if I get stuck at a certain weight?
A. If you plateau for a significant time (one week), we will reassess your blood work esp your thyroid status. Also your diet sheets will be reviewed by the doctor and a plan made. By being consistent, you will break through the plateau. It is not possible to not lose weight if you continue to follow the program.

Q. Can I take B6 and B12 pills instead?
A. The pill version of the vitamins are not effective in helping weight loss.

Q. Is this diet approved of by the medical community?
A. A recent 'Medical Post' article advising doctors re weight loss programs recommended any program which followed the basic principles of science. This means a reduced calorie intake, a varied diet containing all food groups, a life style change, regular supervision and some element of exercise in the program..
