Cancer Screening
In Ontario, there are a few programs offered by the government for cancer screening. The three types that are promoted and funded by the government are for:
- Colorectal cancer
- Cervical cancer
- Breast Cancer
However there are other cancers that can be screened for, sometimes at a cost eg Prostate Cancer.
Please be sure to ask Dr Takhar or her nurse about screening. Women over 50, should be enrolled on the Ontario Breast screening program. Cervical cancer screening should be done yearly until two norma pap tests. Then it can be done every other year. Colorectal screening is done by taking Faecal occult samples and/or by colonoscopy.
It is very important that you advise Dr Takhar of any family history of cancer.
