Chemical Peel in Cambridge
What exactly is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a simple procedure done to remove dead cells from the skins surface. The peel reveals fresh undamaged skin underneath, leading to radiant "glowing" skin. The "acid" in the peel is a natural acid derived from sugar cane.

Will I look red and swollen after the chemical peel?
In the past peels were made of phenol or trichloroacetic acid. These were harsh peels with several weeks of down time. Now the same results can be achieved with a controlled series of glycolic acid peels with that advantage of no "downtime". One can return to normal activities immediately after a peel. At the most there is a mild redness of the cheeks which can be easily covered with make up.Glycolic acid is non-toxic to healthy skin. It targets damaged and dead cells only.

No. A trained aesthetic doctor can assess your skin and medical history to assess if you are a good candidate. Some medications such as Accutane and Warfarin contraindicate have a peel as does poorly controlled diabetes. How many peels are needed?
Each person is assessed individually and a plan is made. It is usual to have a series of 4-6 peels, and then have a maintenance peel every 6 months to get rid of any acquired dead skin. Good skin care is an ongoing effort and one should enhance the positive effects of a peel by using a medical grade exfoliating cream as a daily maintenance regime.Having said that even after one peel a person notices an improvement in the texture and smoothness of the skin.
